Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Preview

Legend of Zelda games have always been a big deal when they come around, the Zelda frenzy that came about from Twilight Princess years before its launch and then again with a certain handheld remake. The truth is gamers just love this series, and that’s very understandable it’s a fantastic game with brilliant ideas and some top-notch puzzle design and incredible pacing. So we were excited to finally get our hands on a playable build.

The demo TGH got to get hands on with had three playable sections. One was a flying section, another was a dungeon and the third was a boss battle. We opted for the dungeon and then the flying section in our short session. First off we chose the dungeon. Dropped in at what looked like the main hall of the dungeon we were left with no explanation of how to play the game, which was not much of a problem as it seemed obvious that swinging the wiimote would slash and the z button locks onto enemies. We felt confident that we could easily get to grips with the simple controls. First up was what seemed to be a newly designed Skulltula, having heard about how you swing will determine how Link swings we took a sweeping swing to cut the thread the Skulltula was hanging from. All that happened was that the Skulltula swung and then span around a bit, when we eventually exposed its soft belly the Wiimotion+ remote was so inept at detecting a thrusting motion it just kept transating it into a horizontal slash which just made the Skulltula swing into us, extremely frustrating. When it finally fell down, which came from shooting it down with one of Links items, we only managed to kill it by pure chance as once again the sword controls just wouldn’t act how you wanted them too. This again transpired later on against a mini boss who would block in certain ways so you had to swing in the correct direction. Vertical slashes worked fine, as did slashes that swing in from the left however it refused to register swings in from the right, thus causing even more frustration.

Overview – The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess on Wii

Properly adjusted around the wrist, the module nunchaku in the other hand, we find ourselves standing in front of the screen waiting for "it starts." A little impatient, we answer a few questions to launch the game (the player's choice of name, backups and all the rest ...) by moving the cursor. As if the remote was a torch, it highlights the choices available and are confirmed by pressing button "A". After endless minutes of logistics, the opening sequence starts last. At the end, Link found that talking to one of his friends at a lake. This man had to go deliver a gift to the royal family of Hyrule but would prefer that it is the elf who is in charge of this mission.

The fights are gaining momentum thanks to the play of light.

Immediately, we see that the graphic style of this album has nothing to do with the very cartoon look of "Wind Waker" on Gamecube. The "Twilight Princess" does not in anatomical accuracy. The characters who surround Link at least, have exaggerated features. In principle, it verges on caricature, but with a very small side manga. The representative of Nintendo whispered to us that "Every Zelda has her paw graphic". But actually, as we shall see later, that of Twilight Princess combines several sources of inspiration ... So Link found in the small village of Toal and as it should, the first few minutes are used primarily to get acquainted with the controls and certain principles of the game in what looks set to be the basis for the management of people in Wii games, it moves with the joystick on the nunchaku and manages most of the actions with the remote. Some special orders will not disappoint fans of Zelda. For example, objects can be attributed to the axes of the cross found on the remote to instantly take them out of inventory. Another reunion: the automatic management of jumps and phases in which Link climbs on a box or along a wall, clinging to the ivy that covers it. From the beginning, you feel the desire to simplify the inevitable contingencies to better allow the player to immerse themselves in history.
