South Africa: Media Medicine - Swallow the Tablet And Adapt
Opinion
I hate spam and yet there I was, armed with nothing more than my delete button going through the unwanted emails that had landed in my inbox.
There I was ready to aim and fire at my target, which consisted of copious amounts of useless information piling up before me. So as I began annihilating the enemy one by one, I came across an opponent that stopped me dead in my tracks.
The headline declared that the new I-Pad 2 tablet had arrived, and further incensed me by detailing its availability in South Africa in store, in several colour options and in a lower price bracket than the older, now obsolete model I had purchased less than six months before. Not only had it arrived with less baggage, less price, and better options, it had done so with much aplomb, disrupting mine in the process!
As my I-Pad aged instantly before me, I was jolted back to the future and reminded of the speed at which the tablet was encroaching on, and changing our lives. Having been a fan of Steve Jobs for years, I suddenly resented his innovation and more so the pace at which he churned it out.
So despite feeling suicidal and ready to do battle with every I-Pad 2 user in the country, this experience got me thinking about the megatrends within the ICT sector, the speed at which these trends are evolving and the impact they will have on our target audiences.
As communicators it is incumbent upon us to understand and leverage this epidemic and swallow the tablet just as Dr Jobs prescribed.
Ingesting the tablet may not remedy the challenges faced by the seasoned marketer, but at the very least it will expand communication platforms, modify messaging, increase distribution channels and more importantly begin to acquaint us with a market driven by early adopters who in turn influence the rest of us.
According to Gartner, sales of the tablet are set to quadruple from 15m worldwide in 2010 to 70m in 2011 and with the early adopter segment pegged at about 15 percent of those figures, they demand to be noticed.

I want to ride my horse bareback but he has a bad back… Will it help ...
On the other hand, if you already ride him in a saddle without problems and you are asking, is a bareback pad better for his back than nothing at all, then yes, it is, because it spreads the load, but the load is always more concentrated without a saddle so be careful. I think in that case, it depends how heavy you are and how well you ride a bareback pad totally defeats the purpose to ride bareback is to ride a horse with out sitting on them without anything on their back that's the best part a bareback pad just ruins its the exact same as just riding on a saddle pad so if your really sure you need something to sit on (which is technically not bareback anymore) why buy a fancy expensive bareback pad just use your saddle pad its the same thing.
