App Launch - Songwriting on the Move With SongSynth

Creator Joss Albért, a well-established composer and songwriter, developed the app after looking at songwriting tools already available and finding nothing that covered all the bases in a single application. His idea was to help fellow musicians experiment with song ideas and build them up into fully working demos, without getting bogged down in composition, and then share their productions widely online via social media and cloud technologies.

Joss Albért explains: “After many years of contemplating the nature of pop songs, I became interested in their simplicity and how – in reality - they boil down to a straightforward set of chords and a vocal melody. Most great songs stand up to scrutiny when reduced to the simplest of arrangements. My ideas about how to create pop songs, combined with the lack of decent, intuitive songwriting tools in the App Store, brought about the SongSynth concept.”

The resulting, wonderfully retro-looking and quite minimalist SongSynth enables a user to create melodies and backing tracks using many hundreds of pre-formed chords – the building blocks of any pop or rock song – and without a need for keyboard skills as the chords are presented as straightforward buttons. Melodies and chords come in a choice of three in-built voices – synth, piano and acoustic guitar – and there is a basic drum machine and, of course, a click track. SongSynth can also record human voices and acoustic instruments, with an unlimited number of overdubs, and even has an integrated text pad for lyrics and composers’ notes. It supports Twitter and integrates with Soundcloud and Dropbox, so users can share works-in-progress and final creations at any time as MP3s.
