Osprey can help decide their playoff opponent
If the Missoula Osprey will do damage in the playoffs of the Pioneer League, they will have to play more like the team they were in the first half of the season than that ballgame came Wednesday night after losing 15 of his 19 previous decisions.
O's took their first step towards this goal in the second to last game of the regular season, getting solid relief work, some strike quickly and a little luck in a 5-4 victory on Travellers in Great Falls smoky sky Ogren Park Allegiance.
Osprey relievers Seth Simmons, Keith and DJ HesslerJohnson combined to limit Great Falls short and not just one hit in the last 5 rounds 1-3 and a wild pitch brought Fidel Pena with the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning.
This means 17 hours of Thursday in the regular season final between the teams at the same Ogren-Allegiance will determine the O's first-round playoff opponent for PBL from Friday.
Because the Billings Mustangs fell 8-4 Wednesday for Helena Brewers, the Voyagers must beat Missoula in the finale of the series to win the second half North Division title and host of the Osprey in the first in a series best of three games series Friday night. A win and a Billings Great Falls, the loss of the O send Thursday to the magical city on Friday.
Although Great Falls (24-13 in the second half and 41-34 overall) was fighting for his life in the playoffs Wednesday, the night belonged to the great relief Osprey body and designated hitter Jon Griffin.
"This victory is huge now, in my opinion," said Griffin, who finished 3 for 4 with a pair of RBIs. "Today, we went out and played like we did in the first half . We looked really good defensively and offensively on the mound, where we got some quality at-bats. Hopefully it will carry out tomorrow and starting tomorrow in the playoffs. "
Voyagers harvested after two to tie it 4-4 and loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the fourth off starting pitcher Dexter Price Missoula, Simmons came on and stopped the threat by fanning Great Falls designated hitter Michael Earley .Simmons was perfect over the next two frames and notched five of his seven outs of the evening by strikeout.

Notes: Archie Bradley, the the seventh overall pick in this year's Major League Baseball amateur draft, will make his first start Thursday for the O's. He is expected to pitch just one inning, allowing him to be available for the playoffs.
Major League Baseball lost a brilliant analytical mind with the departure of Eddie Epstein, who had consulted and evaluated talent for several clubs. St. John's, where Jerry Haugen has coached baseball for 34 seasons, is getting a new $2 million

Following his freshman season, Clontz was moved to the starting rotation to bolster a pitching staff that was depleted by graduation and the Major League Baseball draft. As a sophomore, he was a bright spot on a team that struggled to a 24-30 record.

He is also the cover athlete for the MLB: The Show video game series, and has endorsements with Gatorade, Pepsi, ESPN and my29. Nothing does more for a baseball players prospects on TV and in films than playing in the Big Apple, and Keith Hernandez was

Today the Mets and Braves are going to attempt to play a double header starting at 4:10 pm. This double header is the result of hurricane Irene wiping out the last two games of their series 2 weeks ago. In a shocking development the forecast is for rain pretty much all day again today. This should be interesting. In game 1, Chris Schwinden makes his MLB debut for the Mets. Chris was 8-8 with a 3.95 ERA in 26 starts for Triple-A Buffalo this year. It’s going to be fun to see how he handles himself out there today in terrible conditions. The Mets will try to get back to the .500 mark today in the 1st game for the first time in about a month.
(4-2 4.09 ERA) gets the start. Although the Braves have won all 3 of his starts against the Mets, Mike has a 6.60 ERA while Mets batters have hit .339. In his last start against the Dodgers, Minor threw 6 innings with 7 strikeouts while allowing only 1 run.Stache Keys to the Game
1. Get the Kid some early run support. It would help to make him comfortable in his MLB debut.
2. Don’t blow the game! If Parnell and company start throwing meatballs and walking the building, I’m gonna lose it….and so will the Mets.
3. Length out of Schwinden OR Gee. A double header always taxes the bullpens. It would be nice if the Mets can get some inning sut of their starters.
This late-afternoon/early-evening’s game pits the Mets up against the Marlins for the final time ever in Joe Robbie Stadium/Pro Player Park/Pro Player Stadium/Dolphins Stadium/Dolphin Stadium/Land Shark Stadium/Sun Life Stadium, that is of course unless the Mets and Marlins meet in the NLCS late in October. The odd 5:10 start is because of the Mets having … […] It seems like a convenient time to write this article given Nick Evans’ heroic deeds last night, but I’ve actually been an Evans supporter for quite some time now.Scott Keith Major League Baseball - Bookshelf
