Puget Sound Energy completes turbine installation at US wind farm
The PSE wind project in western Garfield County is scheduled to be operational by April 2012.
Upon completion, the facility is expected to create enough electricity, on average, to serve 100,000 homes.
Construction of the project began in May 2010 when PSE and its lead contractor, RES Americas, started building turbine-access roads and laying underground electric and fiber-optic cable between the 149 individual wind-turbine locations.
The company said the power project's new operations and maintenance building on the outskirts of Pomeroy also is nearing completion.

Puget Sound Energy utility built on the last Saturday of the 149 wind turbines that will power its 343-megawatt Lower Snake River, I-Phase Wind Project in southeastern Washington State.
The completion of the final turbine came six months after PSE crews began to turbine assembly project work.
Crews are now focused on finishing the construction of two important positions and eight miles of transmission lines that will send high-voltage electricity from the wind farm to a substation near Bonneville Power Administration.
From there, renewable energy will go to electric grid in the region.
The PSE wind project in western Garfield County is expected to be operational by next spring. The facility will be the largest of three wind PSE operations and one of the largest in the Pacific Northwest - generating enough electricity on average to serve 100,000 homes.
"We are nearing the home stretch now," said Jay Takemura, PSE environment and communications coordinator of Garfield County. "It's great to see another Puget Sound Energy built facility that has created more green jobs to our state and soon will produce more green energy for our customers."
ChallengeIronically, Takemura noted, strong winds from the Southeast Washington has been a challenge for the crews to erect wind turbines wind Lower Snake River. Since March, the winds delayed or interrupted the assembly of turbines of 79 separate days.
"But it's behind us now," Takemura said. "From this point forward, we will take all the winds, we can get."
Construction of Wind Project Lower Snake River began in May 2010 at PSE and its agent, RES Americas - with turbine manufacturer Siemens Energy and various contractors - began construction of access roads and turbines the laying of underground cables and fiber optic power between the 149 individual wind locations.
About 150 construction workers on average are on the project site, if the number exceeds 250 on a given day. About half of the construction workers are in Eastern Washington, with about one quarter native of southeast corner of Washington.
