"Colombiana" * *

Zoe Saldana stars as Cataleya, a woman who saw her parents killed when she was a 9-year-old schoolgirl living in the slums of Bogota, Colombia. Fifteen years later, she has become a highly efficient professional assassin, but she still seeks revenge against the drug kingpin who is responsible for her parents' deaths. Over-the-top bad guys spew generically menacing lines and the catlike Saldana prowls around during a thrilling jail hit in the kind of skin-tight body suit she might have worn to do motion-capture work for "Avatar." For the most part, it's all big and silly, but at least it's enjoyably staged and crafted. Rated PG-13; violence, disturbing images, intense action, sexuality, language. 1 hour, 48 minutes. "Conan the Barbarian" * *

Take away much of the myth, most of the sorcery and all the humor of the 1982 John Milius-Arnold Schwarzenegger version of "Conan" and you'll get an idea of what the new version is like. Jason Momoa, taking over for Schwarzenegger, cuts a fine figure of a Conan. He could probably have handled a little humor as well as he handles his oversized sword, but the filmmakers' decision to use writers from the godawful "Dylan Dog: Dead of Night" pretty much ruled out wit or chuckles. "The Debt" * * *

Hollywood delivers a nerve-racking and entertaining remake of a 2007 Israeli thriller with Cold War and Holocaust connections. As in the original film, the new version has two settings: Germany in the mid-'60s and Israel in 1997. We see three '60s Israeli spies (Sam Worthington, Jessica Chastain and Marton Csokas) attempt to kidnap a man they have identified as a Nazi concentration camp doctor. Thirty years later, we meet the same three Mossad agents (now played by Cieran Hinds, Helen Mirren and Tom Wilkinson) dealing with its consequences. It's a tricky film to keep suspenseful, but director John Madden and his screenwriters do their best to keep us in the dark. What's really dazzling about "The Debt" are the action beats and the cast. Mirren and Wilkinson are old pros, and Hinds and Csokas are formidable. "Avatar" star Worthington finally gets a role that lets him show us what he's made of. Rated R; violence, language. 1 hour, 51 minutes. By Roger Moore.
