Sandra Swyers is a link between the English as a Second Language (ESL) students and those around them at school.
Imagine a student trying to communicate with others when you do not know their language. Imagine trying to understand the academic concepts in a language that is not your native language. Imagine trying to pass the state standards of learning tests when you can have only a few years of teaching in English. Imagine doing all that, with at least three cumulative.7 grade point average on a 4.0 scale during your years at Martinsville High School and receiving the trophy Big M, the highest academic distinction MHS. Five students Swyers has done all that and named it as their most influential teacher. Two of them recently spoke of the profound impact Swyers, who is now at Albert Harris elementary schools and Martinsville East, and the ESL program has had on their lives. "Hello" and "How are you?were the only words in English that Susan Chacha, a native of Tanzania, was able to speak when she began taking English as a Second Language in 2007 in the ninth year at Martinsville High School. She had picked up those words by listening to others speak. At the end of his senior year in 2011, she was one of about 30 winners of the trophy Mr. BigTEFL Job Dongying China - ESL JOBS
