Should Nintendo start porting games like Super Mario Brothers to the iPhone in the wake of their financial difficulties? Are trophies and achievements important to the gaming experience? QUESTION ONE: Here's a new one: Nintendo has reportedly filed for a patent for something called a "Massively Single-Player Online Game", where the player can play what is essentially a single player game online without interacting with other online players, but their gameplay is still affected indirectly by online players. Can anyone here figure out what kind of game that would be?
Well this is different. This is perfect for those of us who hate playing MMOs with strangers I think. What it sounds like to me is that you can beat the game and don't have to worry about someone coming and stealing your loot or dropping out of a dungeon run halfway through. Maybe I am wrong, but this could be pretty decent if it pans out. Then again, most MMOs on consoles don't pan out so I am worried this could fall apart rather quickly as well.
So let me see if I got this straight. Nintendo has plans for a game where you play alone, but other people playing the same game indirectly affects what I am doing? What the shit, Archer? I have no idea what the thought process is behind this. I don't even know where to begin wondering how this would work. Aside from leaderboards, is there a point to playing online, if you aren't playing a multiplayer game? I'm at a complete loss here.
