Baptist Press reports that on August 28, five members of a house church in Fangshan, China, woke up at 4 am and traveled for two hours to a public square in Beijing, to worship with members of church besieged Beijing Shouwang home. No evangelical Christian minister has been invited, causing Frank Page of the Southern Baptist Convention to ask President Obama to reconsider attending the event."It is not surprising," said the page. "There is a tragic intolerance towards Protestants and especially to evangelicals and I wish the president would refuse to talk unless it is more representative." New BBC Open Forum: Calvary Chapel ®: Church or Cult?

There has been much discussion in the world blog on "sects" of Mormonism and Catholicism. I have not weighed on these topics that I really have nothing to add to the discussion right now, but it got me thinking about other churches that appear cult-like way. One is the Calvary Chapel churches ®. (Yes, the name is copyrighted.) They call themselves a "confession", but rather a "movement" or award "of the churches."On the surface, their teachings seem somewhat in line with those of Baptists and other major Protestant churches, but scratch the surface and you will find more significant differences. In fact, we believe them this page seems rather vague, almost like a "we'll catch up we will" philosophy. For a better understanding of what they believe it is necessary to delve into Calvary Chapel Distinctives Chuck Smith. The allegations of sexual abuse and cover-ups abound. For readers who are interested, just Google the subject.Someone could start a new blog just to cover the stories that come out of this one name ... uh ... movement. People have asked Christa Brown Stop Baptist Predators why it mainly focuses on offenders Southern Baptist. The fact is that, just keep track of those in the SBC is a full-time employment (including SBC still refuses to do). On a personal note, I personally know only a handful of people who were members of the CC. While some may have been a little eccentric to begin with, most of the "nutty" stemmed from their association with CC.When they did not speak their church you do not know they were different from others, but they made it clear that if you were not part of "" the church (CC) you were somehow beneath them . Reading some comments on the links above about the CC members to be "cliquish" and the thought of the CC is the only "true" Church certainly describes my experiences, albeit limited to them.

I recently left a Calvary Chapel because of the authoritarian culture. I felt like this was not right to disagree with a leader in small groups. He was not a pastor. He used sexual language and got involved in an activity that has guys and girls too close and said it was to trust the Lord. It creeped me bigtime. I'm glad I left. I know what is normal in a church. I feel sorry for those who can Calvary Chapel churches, they do not know what Christianity is healthy.
